Harney Carnival

Ellen and I pushed up the carnival visits because we may be trying something completely new to us Saturday evening.  If we do go out Saturday I will write about that as well.  It is not a carnival.  Last night we went to the Harney Carnival in Harney Maryland.  This is a very local carnival with the vendors, games and limited rides all done by locals.  There are no regular rides like the ones you would see at every other carnival.  This one had kids bounce houses and even a mechanical bull for kids and adults to ride.  Live music was the main attraction and it really brings out the people most of which were older. The music last night was more 50’s and 60’s rock.  The band was very animated and even funny.  You did not see the groups of mouthy teens.  What you did get was the families walking with their kids enjoying a nice evening of free music, very low priced food and a local community coming together.  The games were all run by the fire department or locals that wanted to give back to their town. They even have turtle races. We did not get much of the food since we just had a late lunch.  Ellen did get the crab cake that was all meat.  The pizza was the same as every other carnival but the crust and dough was cook a little softer so Banner-Wolf was able to enjoy more of it.  And the best part was the price, $1.50.  Yeah you heard me right.  Half the price as the others.  The funnel cake that we did not get was twice the size as the other carnivals and only $4.  Every one we have gone to they had the deep fried Oreo’s and candy bars.  I have not tried them because of not only the price but I can do them at home.  This time the price was right again.  Most of the carnivals sold them for 5 for $5. Harney had them 3 for $1 and 3 snickers for $2. And they were covered in powdered sugar.    I could not pass them up this time.  Ellen did not like them but I enjoyed them.   I also got a shaved ice for $3. It was very shaved very fine and melted in your mouth without having any ice chunks that you would have to chew.  Banner-Wolf enjoyed that as well.  We sat in the shade, enjoyed our food and watched people.  The overall carnival experience was very nice.  Relaxing and low key.  If you are looking for a nice night out with the family I suggest this carnival.  Just don’t go looking for rides.  Go with knowing you are supporting the locals.  You have till Saturday to enjoy this one as well as Gettysburg.

Sweet Breakfast

I normally make my own breakfast but this morning Banner-Wolf and I were alone and it was a beautiful morning.  We decided to take a walk and ended up at the local bakery here in town.  http://www.gateaumonique.com/ Opened a year and a half ago and is going strong.  Homemade sweets and amazing breads this little shop is a one of a kind in this small town.  Two tables set outside for those who want to eat and watch the cars.  It was a great cool morning to do just that.  We relaxed with a madeleine, blueberry pastry that was so flaky and moist it was perfect and a milk.  I brought Ellen home a small treat as well.  A personal cheesecake.  If you are in town and need a nice place to grab a quick treat please visit them. God bless, thanks for reading and see you at table.

Milkshake, burger, fries and pizza

Making this first part short since I typed about 100 words then deleted it with a hit of a finger on the wrong key.  Burger and crab mac and cheese at Frank and Nic's Baltimore md.  Try it for yourself.  We were not impressed.  Had better crab mac and cheese at The Varsity in Hanover Pa which is now shut down.  I will not go there again.  Now to the better meals.  I have always be on the look out for the best milk shake.  I think I have found it. Hull's Etc made the best in the area.  What was once just a video rental store is now a convenience store and has ice cream.  Thick milkshake and super tasty.  I got the Heavenly Hazelnut.  Chris Hall has made a great place to grab some good ice cream along with many other things.  Great service and a local business.  Can't beat that.  Now if you are in Gettysburg and are wanting some fries and maybe a cheese steak you have to check out Hunt's https://www.facebook.com/Hunts-Battlefield-Fries-and-Cafe-110327159002185/
Great hidden gem that locals go to and tourists stumble upon.  Large fry is a gallon bucket of boardwalk fries.  Amazing taste and come out really hot.  Don't pass them up.  Grab a bucket and then walk down the street to Mr. G's https://www.facebook.com/mrgsicecream/ for a great scoop whatever your taste buds want.  Great Friday night combo.  Now for the last one.  Tonight I made a tortilla shell pizza with hamburger on top.  It was a great light dinner snack and was easy to make. This I did take a picture of.  Now this is just the new beginning of my blog.  Stay tuned for more awesome meals and places to eat.  God bless, thanks for reading and glad to be back.  Look me up on facebook for updates to the blog or subscribe here.  Jason's Super Heart on facebook.

Sorry I have been so long

Welcome back all.  Sorry for the "vacation" from blogging.  As many of you that know me are aware of what has been going on.  For those of you that do not know let me tell you.  Oct 8 2015 our first son Banner-Wolf Midnight was born.  2 months later I got a call from the hospital and said they have a donor heart for me so I went in and had a heart transplant.  It was an exciting end to the year and a beautiful beginning to a new one.  I am as of tomorrow 4 months post transplant and doing very well.  I am driving and able to carry around my son.  I am doing some of the things I use to do.  Over time I will be healthier than before.  I have changed my diet some because of the restrictions I now have on food.  No buffets no raw seafood or rare meats.  No deli meet or raw milk/cheese.  I think it is something I can live with.  I will be eating and making many new things this year and hope you are here to enjoy every bite with me.  Thank you for reading.  God bless, enjoy every day and see you at the table.

Free Samples More like Free Meal

Where I work there has always been a place to eat on the first floor.  The one that has been there ever since I worked there was an Asian/American buffet.  Great food for breakfast and lunch.  I got to know the workers and they always were helpful and kept a clean buffet.  They lost their lease on the office and had to leave.  Wednesday after months of waiting the new place opened up.  Well their official opening is not till Monday but Wednesday we received an email inviting us to come down at 11 and have some free samples.  Boy was I surprised as was everyone else in the office.  They started out with half BLT's for everyone.  They had a hot buffet (pay buy weight) hot bar with Asian and American choices.  We did not know they were including the buffet in the free samples.  Also there was a carving station.  They were serving "samples" of prime rib.  And when I say sample I don't mean the little sample on a toothpick.  They gave us a steak size portion cooked perfect for me.  Rare and very well seasoned.  They also brought out 3 large salads and toppings.  Soups and pastas.  For the most part it was almost everything on their menu.  They will also have Bubble Tea and fruit smoothies.  That is what I am looking forward to the most.  What is this place you ask?  WWW.sproutcafeat.com  check out the site and menu.  I have a hard copy and will be marking off each thing I try.  I think I am going to like this place very much.  I am sad to see all the food trucks leave but this is a good change as well.  Would I eat there again?  Duh..yes..Monday can not get here soon enough..hahaha.  God bless, thanks for reading and Happy Thanksgiving. On my plate.  Prime rib, General Tso chicken, lo mien, fried rice and two types of salad.

Crab cake nachos

It's been a while fellow food freaks. Tonight's menu was crab cakes and nachos. I took last night's left over crab cake, broke it up over some nachos, topped with salsa and fresh farmers cheese  and finished it off with so spinach. The cheese was from www.stoneypointfarmmarket.com and if you are from Littlestown Pa you better know where this is and give them your business. Sorry for the delay in posting but I have had a lot come up. Hospital stays and the birth of my first child. Banner-Wolf.  Born October 8th. I can't wait till he can eat solid food. He will have a world of tastes ahead of him. Thanks for reading, God bless and see you at the pediatrician.

Sweet treat

I wanted something sweet after my breakfast. Nothing in the pantry so I did the next best thing. No I did not go buy doughnuts. The other day we pulled about a dozen pares from my parents tree and a brought them home to get ripe. I took the largest and the one that was the hardest, sliced it thin, a little butter, brown sugar and cinnamon and sauteed them in a pan till tender. First time me doing this and boy was it good. I left the skin on for a little more texture. Sweet and delicious. Will I do this again?  Sure will. Maybe even when Ellen gets home from work and wants a snack before class. I suggest you make these. Your mouth will thank you. God bless, thanks for reading and see you under the apple tree.

First Child

We are having our first child in October.  Any food advice for when he is old enough to eat solid or semi solid food?  We plan on making our own baby food when he is not nursing.  His name is Banner-Wolf Midnight.  You heard it here first.  All others are just knockoffs.  God bless, thanks for reading and see you at the hospital holding our baby.

Food truck Lunch

Food truck lunch
The Java Cruiser was my lunch destination today. Big Cheese. Grilled cheese and coffee is the trucks specialty. I missed it Tuesday when they were here for breakfast. I will not make that mistake again. Jeff (owner and chef) has his stuff together running tight truck.  I ordered The Caprese. Mozzarella, basil pesto, balsamic and tomato on sourdough bread.  Bacon was a side addition so I added it. It looks messy but its not. I just opened it up to expose you all the tasty meet, cheese and tomato.  Bacon very crunchy. I love that. I hate soggy bacon. Tomato and mozzarella worked really well. The pesto basil and balsamic topped off the sandwich perfectly. It was fresh, hot and grilled really well. All in all a very nice sandwich. Would love to have this on a bagel. Jeff said they had a homemade hot sauce which I would have loved to added. Maybe next time. Because there will be a next time. Do I recommend this RR ( rolling restaurant ), I sure would. So if you see them chance them down. God bless, thanks for reading and see you at the roadside RR. http://www.javacruiser.com

Peach festival

Ellen went to a peach festival today after church and brought home all these goodies. I had the doughnuts for a snack after dinner with farm fresh sweet corn with roasted ,potatoes, onions, squash, zucchini, eggplant and tomatoes. Most of which were from our garden. The doughnut was very tasty. On a scale of doughnuts it scored a 9 out of 10. Sorry you all can't try one as well. You just have to take my word for it. I do have a few other dishes I wanted to post but have been lazy about it. I want to try to post about once or twice a week. I guess I need to eat some different things so I have a reason. Well God bless, thanks for reading and see you at what ever festival you like.
